Day 1: Arusha-Staring point Lemosho (2,385m) – Mti mkubwa Camp (2,780m)
Morning after breakfast, you will be picked up at the lodge and taken to the Londorossi Gate (2,250 m). Here you will be registered by the national park authorities. This ride goes through the beautiful tropical rainforest, after which you arrive at the drop-off point at 3,500 meters. Here you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Shira plateau for the first time. you will be accompanied by an armed ranger during the first 2 days of your trek since that this region is the home to wild game.
Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa (2,780m) – Shira Camp 2 (3,900m)
Today the Lemosho route joins the Machame route. Today’s hike leads from Shira Camp 2 to the beautiful Lava Tower. This part of the climb has many assents and descents and offers beautiful views along the way. It is a long hike and you may start to feel a bit uncomfortable because of the height. It is therefore important to stay at Lava Tower for 1 to 2 hours in order for your body to adjust to the altitude. We will use this time to have lunch here. After lunch, you descend to Barranco Camp. Here you will encounter strange looking flowering plants that grow up to five meters high
Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Day 3: Shira Camp 2 (3,900m) -Lava Tower (4,640m) – Barranco Camp (3,960m)
We leave the forest behind now and the trail gets steeper as it enters the moorland zone. A gentle grade walk takes you across the high-altitude Shira Caldera to Moir Hut with fabulous views of Arrow glacier. The vegetation becomes sparser as the landscape changes to alpine desert. The climb passes through the wide Barranco Valley with its lobelia and giant senecio plants. After 6 to 7 hours’ walking, you will arrive at the Barranco Camp – perhaps the most beautiful camp on Kilimanjaro.
Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Day 4: Barranco Camp (3,960m) – Karanga Camp (4,640m)
A short but fun day, starting with a scramble to the top of the Great Barranco Wall. We then traverse over scree to the Karanga Valley (3930m). From here you will have fantastic views of the southern glacier of Kibo as well as of the Kibo summit. You will get to Karanga Camp around lunch time.
Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Day 5: Karanga Camp (4,035m) – Barafu Camp (4,640m)
We leave Karanga campsite behind to meet the junction connecting with the Mweka descent trail. From here we continue up to Barafu Camp. You have now completed the Southern Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. At camp, we can rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are to be clearly seen from this position.
Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Day 6: Barafu Camp (6,640m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,080)
You will be woken around 23:30 with tea and biscuits. We start our trek to the summit between the Rebman and Ratzel glaciers through heavy scree up to Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging part of the trek. At Stella Point (5732m), we will stop for a short rest and hopefully be in time to witness the magnificent sunrise (weather permitting). We are now only an hour away from the summit, Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. From the summit, we descend down to Mweka camp site, via Barafu for lunch. Trekking poles will be needed for the loose scree going down to Mweka Camp (3100m). Later in the evening, we will enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.
Day 7: Mweka Camp (3,080m) – Mweka Gate (1,630m) – Arusha
A gentle trek takes us down through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where we complete park formalities and receive certificates, which you can hang up with pride! We are then met by our vehicles and return to the hotel in Arusha/Moshi where you can relax at the pool and celebrate your achievement.
Departure Day
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport. Alternatively, you can extend your trip in Tanzania and go on safari or relax at the Tropical Zanzibar Island.
