Tour Descriptions:

This 5-days walking tour takes you to the diverse landscape of the Ngorongoro Crater Highlands. You will hike through wide grass and mountainous countryside as well as witness the savannah landscape of the great Rift Valley. Experience Maasai life and way of living while walk past their villages Next to the unique nature and animal sightings.

Tour Highlights:

Hiking through Ngorongoro conservation area to Lake Natron, Witness the remarkable Great Rift Valley, walking and passing via many tradition Maasai Bomas. Explore the crater on a well-maintained path while descend to impressive Empakai, view the Oldonyo Lengai (Active Volcano Mountain).

Day 1: Arusha to Olmot crater- Nainokanoka camp.

Distance: 2 km
Walking time: 1-2h

Pick up from Arusha in the morning and drive to Ngorongoro Crater conservation Area. You will travel along the rim of the crater until you reach the village of Nainokanoka. Possible visit a small waterfall along the way and at evening overnight spend at maasai village Nainokanoka campsite.

Day 2: Nainokanoka Camp to Bulati

Distance: 16 km
Walking time: 4-5h

Breakfast at Nainokakanoka campsite, journey begins today you will meet your additional Massai guides and donkeys, who will escort you throughout the next days. you will pass many traditional Masai bomas and cattle herds to the embulbuld depression where you can meet some wild animals like gazelle, form and grant, wildebeest, jackals, zebra and different species of birds like Eagles and koru busted as well to buzzard. There after walking for three hours, from Nokanoka to bulati village. have your picnic lunch then your driver will pick you from bulati village and drive to Empakai.

Day 3:

Bulati to Empakai  

Distance: 9 km
Walking time: 3-4h

After breakfast, the journey goes up a hill where you can take a last panoramic view of the grass plains. you will also give your farewells to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The landscape outside of the conservation area becomes drier and warmer. The trek continues up and down through the bushy landscape which finally opens up to the active volcano, Oldonyo Lengai.

Dinner and overnight at the Empakai camp.

Day 4:

Empakai crater to Acacia Camp

Distance: 13 km
Walking time: 4-5h

Today after breakfast the Maasai will start loading their Donkeys who carry the entire equipment. your hike will start to Masai village Nayobi and following a good vehicle path. Nayobi village will be seen in the distance under the impressive volcano active Oldonyo Lengai know as ‘The mountain of god’. Tonight’s camp will be set up under acacia tree

Day 5:

Acacia Camp – Engare Sero -Arusha

Distance: 6 km
Walking time: 2-3h

After an energizing breakfast you will have more time to explore the lake before departing, the trek descends down into the dry and hot Rift Valley, where the ash can be seen up close. Around noon you will reach the waiting vehicle and your driver will take you back to Arusha. where your trip will end.
